Meet Jorge Olivo

Jorge Olivo is the sound designer for all of the SMALL PLAYS FOR GIANTS! We asked him a few questions to get to know him better.

What's your favorite part of working on a new show?

The moment when all the research and bits and pieces suddenly add up and the world of the story becomes real, at least in my head.

When has art helped you overcome something in your life?

Literally everyday, frankly I don't understand how people live without creating some form of art.

What are some what-ifs you're following or hope to follow soon?

Sometimes people ask, What if success was guaranteed? Lately I've been asking: What if you could never succeed? would you still keep doing it? weirdly it helps remind me that the process has many rewards often more than the outcome.

What other artists inspire you?

This list would be huge, I love Jorge Luis Borges and Roberto Bolano and I've been really into video game music lately.

What projects do you have coming up next?

Nothings official yet but I may go to Ireland this April with a show called Mother.

Jorge Olivo is a sound designer based in NYC. He recently won Best Sound Design at United Solo for "Hide Your Fires" with Ren Gyo Soh. Other credits include "The Signature Project" at The Sheen Center, "Nu Works" with Pan Asian Rep and "Remains" at Theaterlab. He can also be found mixing shows at "Truffles: Jazz, Murder and Dinner". He is very excited to be creating with WalkUpArts and exploring theater that connects people on an intimate level.
