Meet Dan Kelly

July 10, 2018

Dan Kelly is our fabulous Production Stage Manager on odysseus tied to the masT and our ASM on God Likes You. We've loved getting to know him better and think you will too. Read on to learn a bit about Dan and his process!

What's your favorite part of working on a new show?
I love working on new works because I love the process of figuring out what the bones of a show are, or what a show wants to be.  That whole process of defining the show and figuring that out is always really exciting for me and being in a room full of artists that are excited to create is why I work in theatre.

When has art helped you overcome something in your life?

Especially recently art has become an outlet for me to understand why things happen the way they do and why people think the way they do.  It has also become more of an escape for me to overcome my anxieties related to the state of the world at the moment.

What are some what-ifs you're following or hope to follow soon?

Part of what's exciting about being a freelance artist is that you're always chasing what ifs!  I have plenty that I'm chasing at the moment.

What other artists inspire you?

Every artist at Trusty Sidekick inspire me any time I'm working with them.  Their work has such a dedication to serving their audience while breaking down and challenging what theater and performance is.  The work I've seen them create is some of the most innovative and emotionally compelling work I've seen.

What projects do you have coming up next?

Concurrent with this show I'm working on a solo performance piece with music called That's Not Tango, co-written by Stephen Wadsworth and Lesley Karsten and directed by Stephen Wadsworth.  We're in performances right now at SubCulture with tour dates in the fall.  I'm also working on a piece I'm developing with fellow Society for Misfit Puppets co-founders Leigh Walter and Charlotte Moroz called Regret + Time Travel.  It's a site specific musical theatre piece utilizing projector shadow puppetry that will be performing at Aidron Duckworth Art Museum in Plainfield, New Hampshire at the end of August.
